One of the main pharmaceutical industries in the country, the Pharmaceutical Blau, opened in February this year, in its industrial complex, located in Cotia (SP), a new plant especially dedicated to biotechnological active pharmaceutical ingredients (IFAS).
The work, which was planned and executed by Asmotec, has an area of 3000 m², made up of modern, high-tech, safe and sustainable equipment. The intention is that the built plant can operate up to six five thousand liter bioreactors.
In the first stage, the factory received the certificate of Good Manufacturing Practices for biological inputs, published by Anvisa, in the Official Gazette of the Union.
This construction is extremely important, simply because, currently, biotechnological medicines represent 29% of the entire market. This number even includes recombinant proteins, immuno-oncology, monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, etc. The project is also considered a great step towards the independence of Brazil, when it comes to the manufacture of various medicines.
The new factory, developed by Asmontec, opens new perspectives for the company. New horizons have opened up, thanks to the site's high operating technologies, due to the fact that it has dedicated and segregated areas. One is dedicated for cell culture (perfusion) and the other is special for bacteria (fermentation).
It is a platform that opens up the possibility of producing vaccines (those with inactivated viruses), monologous, immuno-oncological antibodies, in addition to the production of recombinant proteins.
Blau's new industrial unit of inputs is a milestone for bringing greater autonomy and independence to the company. This is because Brazil is currently dependent on imports of the vast majority of APIs for the production of biological medicines. And with this new project, the Company stands out and consolidates itself even more in the market.
