What is Biosecurity?
Safety is an indispensable prerequisite for performing daily tasks, regardless of the work area. But when it involves biological, chemical, or physical risk, this is even more crucial. So much so that the risks of biological agents causing infections to individual or community health are covered by Law 11.105. Learn more about biosafety.
Apart from Risk Class I, which deals with biological agents that are incapable of causing infections in humans, all the others are harmful to a certain degree. II considers the risk moderate, with limited propagation. Risk Class III assigns high individual risk and limited community risk, given the existence of prophylaxis and treatment methods, such as hepatitis and the HIV virus. Class IV offers high risk, with propagation capable of causing epidemics directly or indirectly – as is the case with the Ebola virus. Under class V, there are agents of high animal and environmental risk, non-existent in the country, with rapid dissemination.
To prevent and control risks in operational, research or production activities, which could compromise human, animal or environmental health, it is necessary to adopt a set of biosafety actions, defined by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency), to keep the environment free from contamination.

The use of PPE, hand hygiene and the correct disposal of waste and materials are essential to maintain biosecurity in the health area.
Hospital
In addition to observing and complying with safety protocols, with absolute rigor, in clinics and hospitals, it is often necessary to use primary access barriers, decontamination of materials, among other devices to protect against contamination and infections of employees and patients. .
Laboratory
The higher the risk class, the greater the need to install cabins and controlled environments (air, pressure, temperature). Only in this way is it possible to generate quality results in scientific procedures and guarantee well-being and protection against biological accidents.
