To stop the wave of contagion of the new coronavirus (Covid-19), countries around the world, including Brazil, have adopted social isolation, constant hand hygiene, use of masks and etc. Such attitudes contribute to the decrease in the number of new cases.

What are field hospitals?
These hospitals are structures temporarily installed somewhere, so that patients can be treated urgently. Although temporary, and usually built in a hurry, these buildings need to meet and follow safety regulations, so that the environment is totally safe and able to receive patients. After all, the place needs to provide full protection for the healthcare team and patients.
ANVISA guidelines for the construction of field hospitals
Concerned about the safety level of the environments, the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) prepared a technical document that contains the necessary guidelines to be followed in the construction of these hospitals, throughout this period of health crisis we face, generated by the COVID pandemic. -19.
This Technical Note (NT) 69/2020 points out several recommendations on how the units built should be structured, with the aim of assisting in the process of serving the population and expanding the capacity of people who can be attended and treated. Field hospitals, therefore, must have hospital and ICU beds, so that these individuals can be referred to the structures.
The document prepared, as a measure of emergency public health response to the new Coronavirus (COVID-19), aims to:
- Support the expansion of beds, reactivation of obsolete care areas, or hiring of beds with isolation for the care of cases of human infection by COVID-19;
- Support the proper and timely operation of the organization of the care network to meet the increase in the number of cases of the new Coronavirus;
- Guide, in situations of outbreak or epidemic of new coronavirus cases, the organization of the health care network for the availability of ICUs that meet the demand for intensive care for severe cases, ensuring the adequate isolation of these patients;
- Reinforce the need to guarantee protection to the health team that works in the care of suspected or confirmed cases of the new Coronavirus.
All guidelines and guidelines must be adapted to the reality of the place, according to each state and municipal contingency plan. In addition, the note also talks about the partnership with the local fire departments, in relation to safety and fire prevention facilities.
It is important to highlight that the document published by ANVISA contains guidelines for field hospitals that provide care for adult patients infected with COVID-19., in particular, in cases where precautionary measures regarding transmission are still necessary. It is also dedicated to cases in that the patient cannot remain at home or return to it for medical advice.
Below are some of the structural recommendations contained in the document:
- The field hospital must have a trained care and support team, in adequate numbers;
- The use of gel alcohol must be available, by place of service, circulation corridors, entrances and other environments;
- There must be logistical management in field hospital structures, to ensure sufficient supplies, medicines and equipment throughout the period of operation, in addition to having adequate collection and transport of exams from the reference laboratory.
Guidelines should also be established:
- Assistance and patient care flowem to be recognized by all professionals involved in the service;
- Recommendation guidelines for hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, cleaning of environments, equipment and furniture and waste management;
- Training on the flow routines that will be performed.
ANVISA also emphasizes that the published technical note has an orientation character. This means that the needs imposed by the pandemic situation may require the use of different parameters.
